1981 Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends

Spider-Man teamed up with Iceman and Firestar in the popular Saturday morning cartoon Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. The “Spider-Friends” went to college together and all lived in Aunt May’s house.

One of the most memorable parts of the show was their rec room that transformed into a futuristic secret base with a mere pull of a football trophy on the mantle. When the hell did they install that?

Fun Fact: The Human Torch was originally intended to be one of the Amazing Friends, but the character was considered bad for kids because he’s covered in flames. Thus, Firestar was born.

1994 Spider-Man

1994’s Spider-Man had the longest run of all the Spider-Man TV series and featured tons of villains, both classic and recent. The show was generally more adult and had longer, more complex story arcs.

Fun Fact: Joe Perry of Aerosmith composed and performed the theme song.

1999 Spider-Man Unlimited

In Spider-Man Unlimited, Spider-Man travels to an alternate reality where he battles animal hybrid versions of his old foes. Not surprisingly, this strange series lasted only a single season.

2003 Spider-Man: The New Animated Series

The slick, computer generated Spider-Man: The New Animated Series ran on MTV in 2003. It’s notable for the many celebrity voice talents featured. Peter Parker was played by Neil Patrick Harris and Mary Jane Watson was played by Lisa Loeb of all people.

Fun Fact: Rob Zombie, Michael Clarke Duncan, James Marsters, Kathy Griffin, and Jeremy Piven all lent their voices as guest stars on the series.

Bonus: The Ramones - Spider-Man

The Ramones did a great cover of the original Spider-Man theme song for the Saturday Morning Cartoons’ Greatest Hits album. The video is also a tribute to the original show.
