Lost Season 2 Finale: Live Together Die Alone

That was a crazy finale. Many questions answered, but tons of new questions introduced. Our main man from the Hatch, Desmond, returns and Michael leads the group to the Others. Here are some interesting points I noticed: (*possible spoilers ahead*)
- Desmond sailed due west for 2 weeks only to end up back at the island. This supports a Bermuda Triangle type of theory.
- Desmond was in the British military, but was sent to military prison and then dishonorably discharged apparently for not following orders.
- Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens joins The Turn of the Screw as an important book to series.
- Desmond was in the Hatch for 3 years.

- Remember Widmore Construction and Widmore Laboratories? Desmond is in love with Penny Widmore, daughter of Charles Widmore.
- Desmond met Libby in a coffee shop where she paid 4 dollars for his coffee. He then told her that he needed 42 thousand dollars for a boat. Libby decided to give Desmond her dead husband’s boat, “Elizabeth”, to compete in Widmore’s solo sailing race. Desmond said, “I shall win this race for love.”

- Weird voices from the jungle the names of the people in Michael’s group. It seems like a green bird says “Hurley”.
- On the way to the Others’ camp, Sayid, Jin, and Sun see a 4-toed foot of a giant statue. The Colossus of Rhodes?
- Sayid discovers that the camp Michael was taken to is fake.

- Kelvin Inman was the American officer that captured Sayid and his unit in Iraq.
- The first thing Kelvin asked Desmond was, “Are you him?” This was the first thing that Desmond asked Locke.
- We learn the answer to the “What did one snowman say to the other snowman?” joke. “Smells like carrots.”
- Radzinsky (sp?) was Kelvin’s former partner in the Hatch. He was the one that edited the orientation film, figured out how to fake a lockdown, and started painting the blast door map (using laundry detergent). Kelvin claimed that Radzinsky committed suicide.
- Kelvin joined the Dharma Initiative.
- The Others are called the Hostiles by Kelvin (and in turn Desmond), but it’s not entirely clear if they refer to the same group.

- The Hatch apparently controls some powerful electromagnetic force. While drunk, Kelvin said that “the incident” was a leak and now a charge builds up that needs to be discharged by pushing the button. He also mentioned “electromagnetism geologically unique” in his drunken state.

- The notebook capsules from The Pearl (Station 5) end up in this big capsule landfill in the middle of the jungle. Weird.

- Desmond believes he caused the plane crash. “922044:16 SYSTEM FAILURE” is on the print out from The Pearl. September 22, 2004 is when date of Flight 815’s crash. Notice the time is 4:16.
- Finally, we see an arctic monitoring station manned by Russians (?) (I must have been on drugs) Portuguese-speaking men that picks up an electromagnetic disturbance. They end up calling Penny Widmore, who appears to be searching for Desmond.

Was it my imagination, or was one of the Russians Matthew Fox?
in the station. they were talking in portuguese. it was not a brazilian accent or neither a portugal accent. but it looks more like american talking in portuguese.
Little correction:
The American Sergeant First Class that is sitting with Sayid during the initial interrogation of Sayid’s commanding officer is not Kelven. This guy is later seen in the “What Kate Did” episode as a Sergeant Major….this NCO is Kate’s “dad.”
Kelvin comes along later on in the “One of Them” episode, just before the second interrogation. Kelvin isn’t in the armed services. He is a CIA agent, as referenced in one of the Desmond flashback’s “..I was a spook…know when I’m being followed.” He’s the one that supplies Sayid with the tools of the trade. He also supplies Sayid with some cash.
Great synopsis otherwise.
One thought on Desmond sailing west for two weeks. The magnetic field that the Swan Hatch controls/regulates could have fouled the compass on Desmond’s boat. But the mag field does not account for an accomplished sailor not using celestial navigation…
They did it to us again. Left us with tons of questions to ponder over the next 4+ months.
Great Synopsis, one thing though, I’m not 100% on this but Elizabeth the lady who gave Desmond the Boat; wasn’t that Libby? I had a look back to episode 2-18, and compared the likeness. Her eyes, the shape of her face, the voice, and the biggest thing her eyes, it just the hair that’s different but it looked unatural in straight red, what’s the deal?
The accent from the two guys in the station was definitely Brazilian portuguese!
Man, are u crazy? I am brazilian. That language WASNT brazilian portuguese. They use expressions only used in portugal, but the speakers arent brazilians or portugueses. They sound a lot like a italian speaking portuguese. IMHO: they used any “latino speaker” (italian, in this case) to speak portuguese. So, its impossible to guess if JJ was thinking that guys meant to be from Brazil or Portugal.
i thought the portugese guy or WOTEVER he is looked like jack/mathew fox but it isnt cos there is proof somewhere thr actors name is len something i cant remember what but ill get a link to the proof ;)
I know Spanish, and I can surely say that those two guys were speaking Portuguese. They are probably speaking a mixture of Spanish and Portuguese. I say this because I speak spanish, and I could understand exactly what they were talking about although some words I couldn’t understand.
jp “Liby” is the familiar form of Elizabeth.
I don’t know what they tryed to do, but the guys speaking portuguese (bad portuguese) aren’t brazilian nor portuguese.
Was the other guy here who didnt look like jack now is Season 4, George Minkowski ???????
